First Presbyterian has gone through many changes in the last few years. Sorry that the website has not been updated during that time.
First, the Congregation of First Presbyterian determined that its historic 1839 church building is too large for our small congregation. Further, the building needs significant repairs and churches are not eligible to receive grants from the NJ Historic Trust.
Therefore, in July, 2022, First Presbyterian leased the 1839 church to a non-profit, 120 East State that is eligible to receive grant funding from the State of NJ. 120 East State has developed plans to redevelop the Church into a performance space and community center.
On April 10, 2022, the congregation of First Presbyterian worshipped for the last time in our historic Church building. But a Church is not a building, it is a community of believers and we continue to worship and serve our Trenton community. St. Michael’s Episcopal Church on Warren Street welcomed our congregation and we have been worshipping there for the last year and a half.
